2. Quick 10
Ten random questions with the answer and explanation shown straight after each one. Ideal for a five-minute session on the bus or during a lunch break.
3. Practice by chapter
Work through every question in one handbook chapter. Most candidates find history the hardest, so start there. See all chapters →

A simple 4-week plan to pass the Life in the UK Test
Most people need around 3 to 4 weeks of steady revision. This is the plan we recommend:
| Week | Focus | Practice target |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Read handbook chapters 1, 2 and 5 (values, the UK, government and the law) | Chapter practice on each one. Aim for 80% or more. |
| Week 2 | Read chapter 3 (history). This is the longest and most date-heavy chapter. | History chapter practice every day |
| Week 3 | Read chapter 4 (modern society), then revise your weakest areas | Two full mock tests |
| Week 4 | Exam conditions | One mock a day. Book the real test when you score 21+ several times in a row. |
7 mistakes that cost candidates a pass
- Mixing up "Great Britain" and "the United Kingdom". Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. The UK adds Northern Ireland.
- Swapping patron saints' days. St David is 1 March, St Patrick 17 March, St George 23 April and St Andrew 30 November.
- Confusing similar dates. The Great Plague was 1665 and the Great Fire of London 1666. The slave trade was abolished in 1807, and slavery itself in 1833.
- Jury sizes. Juries have 12 people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 15 in Scotland.
- Women's voting rights. Women over 30 got the vote in 1918, and the same voting age as men in 1928.
- Crown dependencies. The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not part of the UK.
- Reading too fast. Look for the words NOT, TRUE/FALSE and "which TWO". Our mock test lets you jump back to any question before you finish.
Is this Life in the UK Test Practice up to date for 2026?
